Hugo is the founding principal and CEO of Newcore Capital (“Newcore). Newcore is a specialist investor in social infrastructure real estate in the UK, investing in assets that are integral to society’s needs. It is proud to be a Certified B Corporation and manages capital for local government and other pension funds, insurance companies, European fund-of-fund managers and family offices.
Hugo has primary responsibility for all Newcore clients and funds and is responsible to the shareholders of Newcore for the management and operation of its business.
Prior to Newcore, Hugo was a founder of and Head of Investment at Protego Real Estate Investors, which he set up with two colleagues in 2004 and sold to Barings Fund Management in 2010. He sat on the supervisory board and investment committee and was responsible for all fund, investment and portfolio management across Protego's client base. Between 2004 and 2011, Hugo oversaw the purchase, financing and management of over €2.5bn of UK and European real estate investment in the UK, Germany and the Nordic Region.
Hugo is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and holds Masters degrees from both the University of Oxford and the University of Reading.
Hugo was, until the end of 2015, a trustee of Great Ormond Street Children’s Charity (an NHS charity) where he chaired the Property and Development Committee. Up until February 2020, Hugo was adviser to and Chairman of the London Diocesan Fund's property investment business. He is currently a trustee of the Nuffield Medical Trust (an Oxford University medical research charity) and also spearheading Newcore’s pro bono efforts to regenerate the centre of Blackbird Leys, Oxford.
