Pensions UK is the voice of pensions in the UK, trusted and heard by the government and the pensions industry.

We’re the voice of pension schemes that together provide a retirement income to more than 30 million savers in the UK and invest £2 trillion in the UK and abroad. Our members also include asset managers, consultants, law firms, fintechs, and others who play an influential role in people’s financial futures.

We are seeking a new Chair drawn from among our members to join the Pensions UK Board. The Board currently has 11 directors: five non-executive directors representing Pensions UK members, two independent non-executive directors and four executive directors.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we exist for the benefit of our members, and to deliver the best possible outcome for savers in the UK, so they can retire in confidence and with dignity.

In recent years, we have been through a highly successful evolution which has seen us focus our resources on the areas where we add most value and insight to our members. We are highly engaged with our members, and our Chair plays an important role in this sphere, working actively to understand the needs of the membership and support the Pensions UK team in meeting them.

Candidates will have the integrity, impartiality and insight necessary to advise Pensions UK, lead Pensions UK’s Board, and to both support and hold the executive board members to account. Candidates should be commercially astute, with experience of business leadership. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who are able to represent the breadth and depth of our membership, ideally with experience of running a pension fund.

Candidates are also expected to act as advocates and ambassadors for the progression of the issues that Pensions UK represents, and should have some experience of this and be confident spokespeople.

Pensions UK is mindful of the value that diversity can bring to the Board. We are interested in individuals whose experience and perspective bring a different outlook to Board discussions.

The anticipated time commitment for the role is 25 days per year. The role is unremunerated. The successful candidate will, in normal course, complete a three year term in the role although this can be extended by agreement to six years.
