Speaker Profile: Richard Willets
Richard has focussed on longevity research for most of his career as an actuary. In the 1990s he argued that life expectancy in retirement was set to increase much more rapidly than actuaries had previously thought and introduced the profession to the ‘cohort effect’. He has since published numerous prize-winning papers on the subject; advised or provided consultancy services to various government agencies; think-tanks and regulatory authorities (in the UK and overseas) and been a regular speaker at conferences. He chaired the working party which first developed the CMI projection model, which is now widely-used across the life assurance and pensions industries
