Appointments update - 12 April 2024

Cartwright has appointed Gertrude Sheta as guaranteed minimum pension equalisation (GMPe) project specialist.

Sheta joins from Aon where she was a project and solutions analyst for eight years and a member of the GMP audit team. Previously, she also held the role of administrator at the Department of Work and Pensions. She has experience in audits of GMP reconciliation work, data modelling, trustee project reports, and time management of project plans. Commenting on the appointment, Cartwright director of administration, Julie Yates, said: “Gertrude is a highly experienced GMP specialist whose outstanding work on GMP reconciliation is well known. She is a welcome addition to our expanding team.”

Gallagher has announced the appointment of three executive leaders to its benefits & HR consulting division.

Lee Cook was appointed as managing director of pension administration services, while John Deacon was appointed as head of corporate consulting employee benefits, and Vishal Makkar was appointed as managing director UK of wealth consulting. This comes after Gallagher’s acquisition of Buck, where all three executive leaders previously. Cook, who brings 32 years of experience in the pension sector, will focus on financial performance, growth, and strategy, while Deacon, bringing 30 years of financial services experience, will oversee a team of consultants to provide solutions for group risk, workplace savings, and client technology. Previously head of retirement consulting, Makkar is a qualified actuary with over 20 years of experience. His role will include providing guidance to trustees and sponsors to secure member benefits.

Scottish Fintech Guiide has expanded its team of external advisors with the appointment of Tom McPhail.

McPhail is currently a Pension Policy Institute governor, director of public affairs at The Lang Cat, and former head of policy at Hargreaves Lansdown. Commenting on the appointment, Guiide & Guiide DB founder and pensions actuary, Kevin Hollister, said: “We are very proud to announce that Tom McPhail has joined our team of external advisers in a personal capacity. Tom's experience and foresight in pensions products and policy will be invaluable to us. It will also complement our other adviser's knowledge and expertise.”
