The Avon Pension Fund has an exciting opportunity for a pensions & investment specialist – with general management capability – to lead the Fund’s investment, funding, and finance teams.

The Avon Pension Fund administers the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for c.145,000 members across 464 employers in the region of Bristol and Bath. Employers include local councils, universities, academies, and charities. The Fund manages £6 billion and is one of the largest LGPS funds in the UK. About the role

You will lead and develop APF’s Investment and Funding strategies, ensuring solvency of the Fund and providing financial advice to deliver strategic financial priorities for APF and its employers.

The post-holder leads the following activities:
• Setting the Fund’s overall investment strategy
• Strategic framework for funding and risk management
• Employer engagement on funding and investments
• Ensuring robust financial control environment
• Managing relationship with the Fund’s asset manager – currently Brunel
• Ensuring effective use of resources through proactive resource management

The role holder is accountable for delivery of the Fund’s investment and funding strategies and all financial aspects of the Fund. As a key member of APF’s Senior Management Team, you will also play a broad management role with senior colleagues leading the whole fund.

This role operates under the direction of the Head of Pensions, Nick Dixon, and leads direct reports managing three different areas – investments, funding, finance – a total of c.11 full time employees. You will manage and develop this team of specialists across the three disciplines.

You will need to demonstrate significant experience in some of pensions, investments, actuarial, risk management, finance and accounting.
