Scottish Widows expands digital offering in app refresh

Scottish Widows has added a new ‘insure’ space in its app for workplace pensions customers in order to make it easier for members to be more connected to their finances by seeing all of their insurance policies in one place.

The extension to the app means that members can now link their existing home and car insurance from Lloyds Bank, Halifax, Bank of Scotland or MBNA and easily check cover details.

They can also take out new home and car insurance within the app and, in future, will be able to take out life and critical illness cover, as well as adding products with other providers, with a broader offering designed to help with member financial wellbeing.

The new insure space was added as part of a broader app revamp, which also saw the introduction of a new gamification feature, digital tools and open finance functionality.

Whilst initially targeted towards the group's workplace customers, Scottish Widows said it is planning to roll out more digital functionality more broadly in future.

Further in-app improvements are also planned, as Scottish Widows is recruiting a full gamification team to build more into the app, alongside work to create standalone games for everyone to use.

It also confirmed that, having achieved more than half a million views of the pension mirror and beat the gap tool, it will be investing in more interactive tools.

Commenting on the updates, Scottish Widows managing director workplace and intermediary wealth, Graeme Bold, said: “We're always looking at more ways to help connect people with their financial futures and improve their financial wellbeing, from retirement saving to protecting their families and what matters most to them.

"We're introducing a suite of new features and functionality into our refreshed app and this latest release makes it easier for members to see their products in one place, helping them identify gaps and duplication in their insurance and ensure they have the right cover for their needs."
