A new auto-enrolment compatible pension scheme has been launched by Helm Godfrey in partnership with Scottish Widows to meet the specific needs of people within the film industry, it has been revealed today.
Historically there has been a lower pension uptake in the film sector with nearly two-thirds of film and video production workers being self-employed freelancers often making them ineligible to join employer pension schemes. In addition employees within the industry typically work on short to medium term contracts and frequently move jobs complicating the pension administration process.
However, The Film Industry Pension Scheme, will allow the pension to follow the employee as opposed to the employer. This will enable workers in the film and video production industry to save into a pension without having to join a separate pension scheme at each workplace.
Employers will be able to pay contributions for the duration of a freelancer’s contract, at the end of which the scheme can continue on to a new employer.
Helm Godfrey head of employee benefits John Deacon said: “For the employee it offers greater sophistication than Nest in terms of investment choice, funding limits, transfer-in and options at retirement."
Scottish Widows head of business development Lynn Graves commented: “By using The Film Industry Pension Scheme a person may only ever need to join a single pension regardless of how often they change jobs. Likewise, employers who choose to use The Film Industry Pension Scheme could opt to simply offer just one pension for all staff, whether full-time or freelance.”
