Blog: Top 20 most read stories of 2020

Although 2020 has been a year to forget for most, it has been one to remember for the pensions industry.

It has seemingly coped better than anyone could have predicted in the face of adversity and uncertainty, and progress has even been made in the form of the Pension Schemes Bill, the introduction of DB superfunds and moving towards more responsible investment.

The issue surrounding women's state pension age, involving the Women Against State Pension Inequality (Waspi) and Backto60 campaign groups, has continued to hit the headlines this year, with the Court of Appeal dismissing the challenge against the Department for Work and Pensions.

The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has been consulting on its new DB funding code, which drew significant commentary from the industry, and it’s no surprise to see it featuring in the top 10 most read stories.

With so many consultations launched this year, it was to be expected to see them feature heavily in the list, while the progress of the pensions dashboards also captured readers' attentions.

The Pensions Ombudsman has also been busy this year, with two stories relating to its decisions making the top 20, while the progression of the pensions dashboards also caught people’s eyes.

The topic represented the most in this year's list was, perhaps unsurprisingly, the Pension Schemes Bill, with the industry waiting with bated breath to see its impact in 2021.
